Definition, theory and genres of music
Music is an art and entertaining activity through melodious sound. Many music experts also consider this art as a connective link between silence and sound. Music is generated with a combination of various elements such as dynamics, rhythm, pitch, melody, harmony and sonics. On the basis of these elements, the mood and genre of music is determined like classic, sad, rock, pop and jazz etc. Different kinds of musical instruments, vocal tricks and singing techniques play an important role to give birth to the music. Generally music is described as an art that covers various fields such as symphonies, songs, tunes and melody together to form a beautiful art to listen.
Theory of music
Music theory is all about encompassing the mechanics and nature of music. In a grand level, distillation and analysis of music elements in various parameters i.e. harmony, rhythm, melody, texture, structure and form is the basic theory on which this art works. It includes identification of patterns that examine the notation and language of music. In other words, any concept, belief, statement, description about music can comprise the music theory. Some music theorists in the ancient period have even added human psychology, physiology and acoustics for explanation of the discovery and mechanism of music.
On the basis of nature, mood and intensity of musical elements, there are various music genres, some of them are as follows –
Contemporary – Contemporary music is the music genre which is based upon the matters related to faiths and belief of the subject on which the piece of music is based.
Country – The blend of popular musical forms which is basically found in traditional music style of the place means possesses roots in traditional folk music, vintage music notes, blues etc. comes under the country music.
Funky music – The American style music that originally occurred during late 1960s and bears the blend of soul jazz, soul music and rhythm comes under the funk music. It is a totally modern type of music which is suitable for dance too.
Gospel music – The music genre which is characterized through dominant vocals that refer to lyrics of religious nature especially the Christian religion is called Gospel music genre.
Jazz – This is the original American platform of music which was origination at the starting of the 20th century. The basis of generation of this genre is the European and African traditional trends of music.
Afro jazz – This genre refers to jazz music which is influenced by the African music art. The elements of the art here are swing, marabi and American jazz which are used in a unique manner.
Disco – This is one of the most popular dance oriented pop music which is popular from 1970s.
Folk music – This is the basic sense of music which is generated for and by the common people. It includes the melody and rhythm of music that belongs to certain region.
Apart from these, thousands of music genres are there to be popular among people in the modern time. lyrics is given special place in the formation of a beautiful art piece of music and the melody and symphony to be used mainly lies upon the mood of lyrics often.
